The Ministry of Environment promotes the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, the enhancement of biological diversity and environmental quality for the benefit of people and the environment in a decentralized and articulated way with public and private organizations and civil society, in the framework of green growth and environmental governance.

The Ministry of Environment also formulate, plan, direct, execute, supervise and evaluate the National Environmental Policy (PNA), applicable to all levels of government, and direct the National Environmental Management System (SNGA) and the National Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA) exercising the rector of the Environmental Sector.

Considering that the environmental dimension is a key factor of social and economic development, the Ministry of the Environment focuses its actions on the strategic axes of Peru Limpio, Peru Natural and Inclusive Peru, through which the incorporation of the environmental variable in the policies and sectoral programs and at different levels of government.

The Ministry of Environment promotes initiatives that contribute to the adaptation and mitigation of climate change, and those that value our natural capital, preventing the loss of forests; we strengthen the protection and sustainable use of biological diversity, through bionegocios and econegocios and work with the local population.

The Ministry of Environment promotes the sustainable management of marine and coastal ecosystems, as well as the integral management of solid waste with modern technologies and municipal strengthening; we promote the efficient management of the environmental quality of air, water, soil and the management of solid waste and chemical substances.

The Ministry of Environment consolidates the evaluation of environmental impact as a support to economic growth and sustainable development, without compromising our essential role of environmental control; and promoting greater and better education and environmental knowledge in citizens, public institutions, the private sector and civil society.

The Ministry of Environment proposes an integrating and multidimensional approach to ensure the provision of ecosystem services and natural resources, for the welfare of society and future generations.
