About

The Ministry of Higher Education is placed under the authority of a Minister and is responsible for the development and implementation of the Government's policy on higher education.

As such, it is responsible for:

  • the organization, operation and educational control of higher education;
  • the perpetuation of the traditional missions of higher education; the promotion and dissemination of university research;
  • international university cooperation in liaison with the Ministry of External Relations and the Administrations concerned;
  • guaranteeing the quality of higher education training. In addition:
  • it studies and proposes to the Government ways and means aimed at permanently adapting certain sectors of the higher education system to national economic and social realities;
  • it is responsible for developing, monitoring and implementing the university map;
  • it develops, analyzes and maintains statistics for this level of education;
  • it issues accreditations and controls the educational level of private higher education establishments;
  • it is responsible for higher normal education;
  • it ensures permanent liaison with all sectors of national life with a view to the development of professional sectors within higher education;
  • it monitors and controls the activities of State Universities, Institutes and Private university establishments;
  • it supervises the delivery of the Baccalaureate and the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level;
  • it exercises supervision over State Universities.

It also exercises academic supervision over:

  • the Institute of International Relations of Cameroon (IRIC);
  • the Higher School of Information and Communication Sciences and Techniques (ESSTIC);
  • the National Institute of Youth and Sports (INJS);
  • the National Higher School of Posts and Telecommunications (ENSPT);
  • the National Higher School of Public Works (ENSTP).

To carry out his missions, the Minister of Higher Education has:

  • a Private Secretariat;
  • two (2) Technical Advisors;
  • a General Inspection of Services;
  • a General Inspection of Academic Affairs;
  • a Central Administration;
  • External Services;
  • Attached Services.
