The Ministry of Petroleum and Mining was established to provide leadership in the management of the extractive sector in the country as guided by the executive order No. 1 of 2018. This includes development of Petroleum and Mining policies, creating a favorable legal and regulatory environment for investments and building capacity for effective management of programs and projects.

The Ministry has two State Departments:

- State Department of Petroleum
- State Department of Mining

Promote sustainable development of the extractives sector.

MISSION

Enhance commercialization of discoveries, develop the requisite skills and infrastructure for production in the oil, gas and other minerals and improve access to competitive, reliable and secure supply of petroleum products.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

- To formulate and strengthen the Policy, Legal and Institutional framework for the development of the extractive sector
- To promote oil, gas and mineral exploration, distribution and marketing in Kenya
- To enhance oil, gas and minerals sector capacity development
- To strengthening the capacities of institutions under the Ministry for effective management of the extractives sector
