The mission of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is the formulation of efforts to be implemented during the 2015-2019 Strategic Plan period in order to achieve the vision and support efforts to achieve national development targets, based on the mandate carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing as stated in Government Regulations Number 165 of 2014 concerning the Arrangement of Tasks and Functions of the Working Cabinet, the mandate of the third phase of the RPJMN and changes in dynamic strategic environmental conditions are as follows:

1. Accelerate the development of water resources infrastructure including maritime resources to support water security, food sovereignty, and energy sovereignty, in order to drive strategic sectors of the domestic economy in the context of economic independence;
2. Accelerate the development of road infrastructure to support connectivity in order to improve productivity, efficiency and service of the national logistics system to strengthen national competitiveness in a global scope that focuses on integration of land and maritime connectivity;
3. Accelerate the construction of residential infrastructure and public housing to support decent basic infrastructure services in order to realize the quality of Indonesia's human life in line with the principle of 'infrastructure for all';
4. Accelerating the development of public works infrastructure and integrated public housing from the periphery supported by a quality construction industry to balance inter-regional development, especially in disadvantaged areas, border areas, and rural areas, within the framework of the NKRI;
5. Improving the governance of organizational resources in the field of public works and public housing which includes human resources, control and supervision, secretariat and research and development to support management functions including integrated planning, efficient organization, proper implementation, and strict supervision.

 

In accordance with Presidential Regulation Number 15 of 2015 concerning the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and Presidential Regulation Number 135 Year 2018 concerning Amendments to Presidential Regulation Number 15 of 2015 concerning the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing.

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has the task of carrying out government affairs in the field of public works and public housing to assist the President in organizing state government.

In carrying out the tasks referred to above, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has functions:

1. formulation, stipulation, and implementation of policies in the field of water resources management, road management, housing provision and development of residential areas, infrastructure financing, structuring of buildings, drinking water supply systems, wastewater management systems and environmental drainage and solid waste, and construction services ;
2. coordinating the implementation of tasks, guidance, and providing administrative support to all elements of the organization within the Ministry of Public Works and housing;
3. management of state property / wealth that is the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing;
4. supervision of the implementation of duties within the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing;
5. implementation of technical guidance and supervision of the implementation of affairs of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing in the area;
6. implementation of the preparation of technical policies and integration strategies for the development of public works infrastructure and public housing;
7. conducting research and development in the field of public works and public housing;
8. implementation of human resource development in the field of public works and people's housing;
9. implementation of substantive support to all organizational elements within the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing; and
10. implementation of other functions provided by the President.
