The Ministry of Public Works is responsible for designing, developing and implementing Government policy in the field of Public Works and for monitoring them.
As such, he is particularly responsible for:
- Drafting laws and regulations on public works and ensuring their application;
- Develop and implement construction and asphalting projects for national, prefectural and urban roads and monitor them;
- Participate in the development and implementation of urban road opening projects
- Develop and implement construction projects for crossing structures
- Design, develop and implement legislation and regulations in the field of Public Works;
- To develop and implement prefectural rehabilitation and construction projects and to monitor them;
- To organize the maintenance operations of the national roads, prefectural roads, urban roads and crossing works and to see to their execution;
- To organize tolls on motorways, national roads and large bridges;
- Ensure the protection of the road network;
- Set up weighing systems and rain barriers and ensure their operation;
- Install, maintain and rehabilitate river bins and ensure their operation;
- To develop and implement the geodesy and basic cartography projects of the national territory;
- To promote the use of local materials and adapted techniques in the field of road construction;
- Carry out operations aimed at the qualification and development of Small and Medium Enterprises, Design Offices and Control Offices operating in the public works sector;
- Take into account the environmental dimension in the programs and projects of the sector;
- Promote gender and equity in the sector's activities;
- To participate in national, sub-regional, regional and international meetings dealing with issues related to the fields of public works.
- To design and implement the geodesy and basic cartography projects of the national territory;
- To promote the use of local materials and adapted techniques in the field of road construction;
- Carry out operations aimed at qualifying and developing SMEs, consulting firms and control offices operating in the public works sector;
- Participate in subregional, regional and international meetings, symposia, conferences, seminars and negotiations dealing with issues related to the Department's areas of competence;
- Take into account the environmental dimension in the programs and projects of the sector;
- To promote gender and equity in the activities of the sector.
