About

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) is the cabinet-level administrative office in charge of planning, studying, designing and constructing as well as repairing, maintaining and operating public infrastructure in Chile.

Its work embraces roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, airports and airfields. It is also responsible for the management, distribution, use and conservation of all water resources within the country and for enforcing the national water code.

Its mission also considers new public building and the enhancement of existing buildings that have certain economic character.

The MOP is also responsible for enforcing the country's concessions legislation. It can provide different works to other Ministries that by law must construct or repair different infrastructures. This includes institutions, firms or companies with State participation, Regional Governments and Municipalities.

The Ministry has two main general Divisions: Water and Public Works. They are divided into six Departments: Port Works, Water Works, National Roads, Airports, Architecture and Concessions. Besides, there exist 3 non-executive Departments: Planning, Management Accounting and Finance.

The Water Division (DGA) has as its primary role to implement the National Water Code, meanwhile the Public Works Division articulates the management of the different infrastructure services.

The MOP is territorially decentralized. There is a Ministerial Regional Secretariat in each of the fifteen regions of the country, which are in turn made up of Regional Offices and Provincial Offices More than 8.700 persons are working in the Ministry.

Retrieve, strengthen and advance in the provision and management of infrastructure and services to achieve the best connectivity, protect the territory and people, the public building and get the optimum utilization of water resources; ensuring the provision and care of water resources and the environment to contribute to the economic, social and cultural development of the country and promoting equity, quality of life and equal opportunities for people.

Contribute to the construction of an integrated, inclusive, and developed country through the standards of service and quality, efficiency, sustainability and transparency with which provides infrastructure works and services and caution the water balance which the country requires, coordinating public and private efforts through a participatory planning process, oriented to the needs of citizens, in an environment that promotes excellence, teamwork, personal and institutional development and innovation.
