History of Social Welfare Ministry
After the partition of India in 1947, Mohajirs came from India in this country. In the provincial capital of Dhaka, there was a lot of social problems in Bangladesh. In order to solve these problems, 'City Social Welfare Program' was started in Quettul, Dhaka under the Directorate of Health, 1955. In addition, social welfare council was formed in 1956 through a resolution to promote social issues and provide encouragement and cooperation to volunteer workers and organizations in social welfare activities.


Voluntary organizations (Regulation and Regulation) Ordinance, issued in 1961 to bring the activities of voluntary organizations under a policy. In 1961, the Social Welfare Directorate was created under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, through the responsibility of conducting social services from the government orphanage and social welfare council transferred from the Ministry of Health, transferred from the Ministry of Relief, Education Directorate. 


In 1972, the ministry started the ministry of labor and social welfare, which is suitable for the independent country. At the same time, the 'National Social Welfare Council' was formed by the new resolution of the Social Welfare Council. Called "micro-credit" program was introduced. In 1978 the Ministry of Social Welfare became a permanent national body of the government. 


The creation of Social Welfare Department under the recommendation of the Social Welfare Department as Social Welfare Ministry and Women Affairs Ministry in the recommendation of the administrative committees for reconstitution of the government in 1984.

With the financial and technical support of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the Swedish International Development Authority (SIDA), Tangi is set up the Industrial Production Unit of the Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Center of Physical Disability. As a sign of the Sweden-Bangladesh friendship, the industrial production unit was named after 'friendship industry'. On 12 December 1990, the government handed over the 'Friendship Art' to the Board of Trustees formed under the Trust, forming a trust named 'Physical Disability Welfare Trust'.


Under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, the National Disability Development Foundation was registered in 1999 and its memorandum and constitution were formed for the development and empowerment of the disabled people of the country. In 2000, the National Disability Development Foundation was entrusted to the Ministry of the Ministry. The initiative has already been taken to convert the National Disability Development Foundation into a full-fledged department.


In 2013, the National Neuro-Developmental Disability Protection Trust Act, 2013 was approved in the Parliament. Under the said law, 'Neuro-Developmental Disability Protection Trust' was formed in 2014. Which is the newest organization under the Ministry of Social Welfare.
