Mandate

The Ministry of Local Government is mandated to assist the Chief Minister in the regulation of its constituent local governments to ensure that their affairs are within the scope of their powers and functions.

Mission

The Ministry of the Interior and Local Government enables the local governments to become inclusive, accountable, responsive, and participatory; and promotes public safety

Goals

1. Formulate regional policies, rules, regulations and other issuances on the general supervision of local governments, particularly capacity development, performance oversight, local autonomy and community empowerment;

2. Promulgate, enforce, implement and monitor policies, rules, regulations and other issuances the general supervision of local governments;

3. Strengthen the administrative, technical and fiscal capabilities of MILG and local government offices and personnel; and

4. Formulate, implement and monitor policies, plans and programs for emergencies arising from natural and human induced calamities.
