Solve is an initiative of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that advances solutions from tech entrepreneurs to address the world's most pressing problems. Solve issues four Challenges each year to find the most promising Solver teams that will drive lasting, transformational change. Solve then deploys its global community of private, public, and nonprofit leaders to form the partnerships these Solver teams need to scale their impact.
MISSION
MIT Solve advances lasting solutions from tech entrepreneurs to address the world’s most pressing problems. Solve is a marketplace for social impact innovation: they find tech entrepreneurs from around the world and broker partnerships across their community to scale their innovative work—driving lasting, transformational change.
CORE VALUES
OPTIMISM
Though complex challenges exist in the world, they believe they are solvable.
PARTNERSHIP
No one organization, sector, or industry can solve these challenges alone. Progress must be made through partnership.
OPEN INNOVATION
Talent and ingenuity exist everywhere; they must find and support those with big ideas.
HUMAN-CENTERED SOLUTIONS
Solutions must begin with, end with, and involve the people for whom they’re designed.
INCLUSIVE TECHNOLOGY
Technology should address economic, cultural, and social barriers to create opportunities for all.
Solve was born out of MIT in 2015, a natural offshoot of MIT’s commitment to open innovation and MIT President L. Rafael Reif’s vision to ensure that everybody has a place at the problem-solving table.
In the last two years, thanks to its partners, Solve has brokered commitments of over $12 million in funding for Solver teams and entrepreneurs.
