Moroccan Children's Trust, a small British charity that works to uphold and to protect the rights of all Moroccan children.
They support some of the most vulnerable children and families in Morocco, on the street and at home, through relational, holistic social work. They aim to help families maintain their autonomy, and to provide a loving home where children can develop their full potential.
They also work at regional and national policy levels to ensure that children's rights are upheld across the country.
MCT has a small staff team, and they are supported by enthusiastic volunteers in Morocco, the UK, and across the world.
Their Vision
Their vision is to create a safe and fulfilling environment in which vulnerable children are able to thrive and grow; a Morocco in which children and families living in poverty or disadvantage can count on effective and appropriate support to help them realise their potential.
To achieve this they will continue work in three key areas at the local level: social work with vulnerable children and their families; development of child protection systems throughout the region; and supporting the improvement of the national birth registration system.
Their Mission
Their mission is to support and improve conditions for vulnerable children and their families in Morocco.
Alongside their direct work with disadvantaged children and their families in Taroudannt, they are working to improve conditions for children in the wider community and across Morocco – drawing on both Moroccan and international expertise in social work, paediatrics, education, safeguarding and children’s rights, our work continues to play an important role in shaping Morocco’s newly established child protection system.
THEIR APPROACH
They adopt a holistic approach to their work
They believe that working with vulnerable children demands a holistic approach, and this belief underpins all of their work. They employ this approach to support vulnerable children and their families, helping them address the daily challenges they face that can prevent them from fulfilling their potential. Their projects include educational support and pre-school programmes, their women’s empowerment project, social work, recreational activities, and health advocacy.
They work towards sustainable development
Their sustainable approach is what separates them from other organisations, and their projects are culturally sensitive and embedded in the community. Not only does their work in Morocco help to support vulnerable children and their families in the short term, but it also works to improve conditions for them and future generations in the long term.
They work in the local community, with the local community
All of their work – from their educational support and preschool programme to their women’s empowerment project – is underpinned by intensive casework delivered by local social workers experienced in supporting disadvantaged people in a non-judgemental, compassionate and empowering approach.
