National Center for Documentation and Scientific Research (Centre National de Documentation et de Recherche Scientifique) (CNDRS)
Centre National de Documentation et de Recherche Scientifique (CNDRS) aims to monitor volcanic activity and transmit alerts to the authorities on eruptions, promote research on Karthala to understand its functioning, assess the risk linked to its activities and its interaction with the population, inform, raise awareness of the volcanic risk and assist decision-makers during times of crisis.
Network and Monitoring Technique
To carry out its missions, the observatory has a surveillance network deployed around the Karthala massif and made up of various measurement stations:
Seismological stations: 8 stations including 4 covering the summit area and 4 in the lower areas
Building deformation measurement stations including 2 iclinometric stations and one extensometric station,
A precursor gas detection station, mainly C02 and Radon
