V.No. In the year 2023, the Department of Agriculture was divided into 5 departments and the Fruit Department was formed for the first time. In the year 2029, five departments were reorganized into one agriculture department. For the development of horticultural crops, the Fruit and Vegetable Development Branch and independently the National Orange Fruit Development Program and the National Potato Crop Development Program were established this year. V.No. In the year 2047, the Department of Agriculture was dissolved again and the Department of Horticulture was separated from the Department of Agriculture and in the year 2049, the department was again adjusted to the Department of Agricultural Development according to the principle of under one umbrella, and horticulture was divided into 2 divisions, and the Division of Fruit Development and Division of Vegetable Development was formed. After that, in the year 2057, the fruit and vegetable development divisions were transformed into separate directorates and remained as the fruit development directorate until the financial year 2074 and 75, various programs related to fruits, coffee, tea, and flowers were being conducted. As a technical directorate for the fruit development program at the central level, it is mainly doing policy making, plant supply arrangement, data updating including supervision, monitoring, inspection and coordination and also providing other technical services related to horticulture development including problem solving and guidance of opportunities for the horticulture development program at the national level. It used to be from this directorate. Fruit development programs were launched through all 75 district agricultural development offices and 13 farm centers in the country by formulating timely programs to promote import substitution and export.

As specified by the Constitution of Nepal 2072, along with the restructuring of the state, since 2075 Shravan, the National Fruit Development Center, Kirtipur, has been established as a federal office to carry out the tasks to be carried out by the above former Fruit Development Directorate, and five farm centers under it (1. Ushna Pradeshiya Horticulture Center Navalpur, Sarlahi 2. Temperate Horticulture Center, Kirtipur, Kathmandu 3. Suntalajat Fruit Development Center, Tansen, Palpa 4. Coffee Development Center, Ampchaur, Gulmi 5. Temperate Horticulture Development Center, Marfa, Mustang) are there. To increase the production and productivity of quality fruits, to improve the nutritional status of the common people by increasing the consumption of fruits, to be self-reliant in possible fruits and to replace imports, to promote the export trade of exportable fruits, to increase employment and income levels, and to prevent soil erosion and to protect the environment and provide entertainment. As specified in the Constitution of Nepal 2072, as a result of these efforts of the state, despite the lack of various physical infrastructure and resources, some places have been developed as pocket areas for various fruits such as apples, oranges, bananas, while some other areas are moving in this direction.
