National Council of Nonprofits
About

The National Council of Nonprofits is a trusted resource and advocate for America’s charitable nonprofits. Through their powerful network of State Associations and 25,000-plus members – the nation’s largest network of nonprofits – they serve as a central coordinator and mobilizer to help nonprofits achieve greater collective impact in local communities across the country. They identify emerging trends, share proven practices, and promote solutions that benefit charitable nonprofits and the communities they serve.

Approach

The National Council of Nonprofits is a trusted resource and advocate for America’s charitable nonprofits. Their mission is to advance the vital role, capacity, and voice of charitable nonprofit organizations. They identify emerging trends, share proven practices, and promote solutions that benefit charitable nonprofits and the people and communities they serve.

The National Council of Nonprofits coordinates their network of state associations of nonprofits in 34 states, as well as nonprofit ally members in 10 additional states, and works in coalition with many national nonprofits including their state policy ally members (national nonprofits with affiliates, members, or chapters active in the states) to create a positive policy environment for charitable nonprofits. They publish guidance on their website that is freely available to the public on best practices and dissemminate information through their e-newsletters and social media to help nonprofits and board members make sense of public policy issues.

They encourage nonprofits to become members of their state association of nonprofits in order to be aware of local issues that matter to them, and to build their capacity to advance their missions. As capacity builders their network shares a common goal of building the advocacy capacity of charitable nonprofits, and encouraging nonprofit board members to recognize the important role they play as advocates, to "stand for your mission."

Individual nonprofits (as well as private foundations, consultants to nonprofits, and others) join the National Council of Nonprofits by joining their state association of nonprofits. Their network of charitable nonprofits is the nation’s largest, with more than 28,000 organizational members. By serving as a central coordinator and mobilizer of the nation’s largest nonprofit network, they raise awareness of the important role charitable nonprofits play in all their lives. Thank you for supporting their work by making a charitable contribution.

Focus and Impact

The span of their network – from coast-to-coast and border-to-border – enables the National Council of Nonprofits to learn about developments directly from local charitable nonprofits in the field. With daily access to information through their network of state associations of nonprofits and state policy allies, they identify and track regional and national trends by aggregating information and supplementing it from multiple other sources.

They then circulate that information so fresh insights can be accessed easily by local nonprofit staff members, board members, and donors, as well as journalists and policymakers at the local, state, and federal levels. Listed below are just a few of the media outlets that have turned to the experts at the National Council of Nonprofits for insights on issues affecting the nonprofit sector in the past year.

Whether through their e-newsletters, website, national webinars and conference calls, or Special Reports that identify emerging trends and promote solutions, those seeking timely, reliable, nonpartisan information turn to them for informed insights.
