National Electric Power Company operates as an electricity transmission and distribution company. It engages in the planning, construction, development, operation, and maintenance of electrical transmission grids. The company’s activities include management of the national grid and process of transmitting electric power inside Jordan and to the neighboring countries; purchase and sale of energy; import and export of electric power; permitting the licensed companies to generate electric power to utilize the transmission network; and purchase of natural gas from the seller and supplying it to the power generation companies. It also provides consultancy services, such as projects management, planning and design, privatization and restructuring, financial and economic studies, procurement and contracting management, specifications and tender document preparation, load management and electricity tariff studies, and rural electrification and renewable energy studies to government, private, and non-government organizations. National Electric Power Company was formerly known as Jordan Electricity Authority and changed its name in September 1996. The company was founded in 1938 and is based in Amman, Jordan.
