The establishment of the "National Innovation Agency (NIA)"
The Cabinet passed a resolution on 26 August 2003 to approve the establishment of the "National Innovation Agency (NIA)" as a government agency under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and Technology, with an independent management system separate from the civil service. It allocated funds from the "Innovation Development Fund" as the initial capital of the agency and managed the "Research and Development Technology Revolving Fund" in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Science and Technology regarding revolving funds for research and technology development B.E. 2546 (2003). To implement the aforementioned Cabinet resolution, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued Order No. 84/2546 dated 1 October 2003 for the establishment.
Subsequently, a royal decree was issued to establish the "National Innovation Agency (Public Organization) [NIA]" on 2 September 2009. This led to a transformation of the NIA's organizational structure, turning it into a public organization in accordance with the laws on public organizations. It acquired the legal personality and clear authority and responsibilities. The NIA developed its operational guideline to promote innovation projects in various forms, with the objective of transforming the supply chain into a value chain based on the country's competitive advantages.
