About

The Center for Nutrition and Health of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention was founded in 1941 and has a history of more than 70 years. It is a national-level nutrition, food and health professional research, technical guidance and consulting organization, and is the national nutrition and health business technology guidance center.

The main responsibilities of the Department of Nutrition and Health are:

  1. Carry out technical work on the revision of nutrition, food and health policies, regulations, standards, guidelines, etc., and provide technical advice for the formulation of relevant policies and regulations.
  2. Establish a national nutrition and health monitoring and evaluation system, organize the monitoring of nutrition and health status, food consumption and food composition of Chinese residents, and evaluate the nutritional and health status and food consumption trends of Chinese residents.
  3. Organizing basic and applied research on nutrition and health, traditional diet, special diet, food fortification, food health effects, foodborne diseases, etc. in China, providing technical consultation and socialized services.
  4. Carry out nutrition evaluation, nutrition intervention, nutritional support treatment, nutritional emergency and support for groups and individuals, and organize research and promotion of appropriate technologies for nutrition improvement.
  5. Establish labor, food and health related laboratories and quality management systems, and undertake business guidance and quality control of nutrition related laboratories of national disease control institutions.
  6. Establish a national nutrition, food and health information system, organize the dissemination of nutrition information science, education and journal publishing, and realize the sharing of nutrition information resources.
  7. Conducting business guidance and personnel training in the field of nutrition and health throughout the country.
  8. Carry out international cooperation and technical exchanges in the field of nutrition and health.
  9. To undertake other tasks delivered by the relevant departments at the higher level.

Nutrition and Health are responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of nutrition and health status of Chinese residents entrusted by the Health and Family Planning Commission and the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention, food composition monitoring, child nutrition improvement projects in poverty-stricken areas, and nutrition improvement programs for rural compulsory education students. A large amount of scientific research has been carried out in the field and many important achievements have been made. Under the guidance of the four-in-one thinking of “disaster control, scientific research, emergency, and training”, the Institute of Nutrition and Health will continue to improve its scientific and technological support capabilities and continue to do a good job in national nutrition and health technology guidance.
