Measurement matters

As the UK’s National Measurement Laboratory, responsible for chemical and bio-measurement, they form part of the core measurement infrastructure for the UK. They hold two unique roles, funded by UK government: UK's Designated Institute for chemical and bio-measurement and UK Government Chemist.

They play a leading role internationally to standardise measurements across the world. So that they can all trust food is correctly labelled with no hidden allergens and medicines heal without unexpected side effects.

Through their research in advanced therapeutics, clinical diagnostics and safety and security, they provide unique measurement solutions to underpin some of the biggest challenges of their time, including neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, anti-microbial resistance, food safety and global terrorism.
