Created in 1942 at the initiative of entrepreneurs of the industrial sector, Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial – SENAI or National Service for Industrial Training in English, is the largest institution of professional and technological education in Latin America, calling more than 2.3 million Brazilian workers each year. It is a network of not-for-profit secondary level professional schools established and maintained by the Brazilian Confederation of Industry (a patronal syndicate). SENAI is one of the most important institutions in the country providing formal training for specialized workers for the industry, in the areas of chemistry, mechanics, construction, etc.
Its mission is to promote vocational and technological education, innovation and transfer of industrial technologies, helping to raise the competitiveness of Brazilian industry.
SENAI has 744 operational units in all states of the Union, which offer more than 1,800 courses. It also supports companies in 28 industrial areas, through human resources training and the provision of technical and technological services such as consulting and assistance to the productive sector, laboratory, applied research and technological information. Internationally, SENAI signed 48 partnerships with 29 countries and one international organization, captured 10,804 hours of consulting System for SENAI and promoted the training of 3,654 people in Brazil by international experts. Moreover, in 2010, implemented four vocational training centers and is implementing 11 abroad, in partnership with the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), and developed 29 technical cooperation projects totaling U.S. $ 68.9 million.
Part of the Industry System - still formed by the CNI, SESI and IEL - SENAI Department has a National and 27 Regional Departments with operational units installed in 26 states and the Federal District. They take their programs, projects and activities throughout the country, providing care to different local needs and contributing to the strengthening of industry and the full development of the country and sustainable
The presence of SENAI is an important element of support to the Brazilian government's foreign policy. Currently, the organization conducts significant work in implementing technical cooperation projects in African and Asian Portuguese - Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, East Timor - and Latin America - Paraguay, Colombia - to restructure systems Vocational Education and Training Centres. Another example of integration with national goals are actions carried out under the Montreal Protocol, as the partnership with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation - GTZ - to implement the project PROKLIMA - training of mechanical refrigeration professional - an activity included in the National Plan for Elimination of CFC from the Ministry of Environment.

Work carried out in order to develop or improve products, processes or systems, using a wide network of laboratories, information centers and specialists, focusing on research of new knowledge or understanding of existing ones.
Service Laboratory
Network SENAI laboratory offers calibration services, measurement, testing and / or performance testing for qualification of products and processes, preferably based on systematic procedures and technical standards.
Information technology
Activity that encompasses search, treatment, organization and dissemination of information, enabling the solution of technical requirements and technology related products, services and processes to promote continuous quality improvement and innovation in the productive sector.
