About

It is a public service created through the promulgation of Law No. 19,828, on September 17, 2002. It began its functions in January 2003.

SENAMA is created as a public service, functionally decentralized, with legal personality and its own assets, which is subject to the supervision of the President of the Republic through the Ministry of Social Development and Family, in charge of the Minister Cristián Monckeberg.

Law No. 19,828 creating the Service defines an elderly person as anyone who has reached the age of 60, with no difference between men and women. The main task, which involves the entire SENAMA team, is to contribute to improving the quality of life for the country's elderly.

Mission

 

Promote active aging and the development of social services for older people, whatever their condition, strengthening their participation and appreciation in society, promoting their self-care and autonomy, and promoting the recognition and exercise of their rights; through intersectoral coordination, design, implementation and evaluation of policies, plans and programs.

Its Specific Objectives are:

  • - Promote the integration and effective social participation of older people.
  • - Articulate a social services network aimed at elderly people in situations of vulnerability and / or dependency.
  • - Induce a cultural change that promotes the positive assessment of older people.
  • - Strengthen the territorial management of SENAMA.
