Natural Resources Consulting Engineers, Inc. (NRCE)
Natural Resources Consulting Engineers, Inc. is a water resources consulting engineering firm headquartered in Fort Collins, Colorado with additional offices in Oakland, California and Asmara, Eritrea. Their staff ranges from 30-40 personnel, and they periodically recruit talented engineers, hydrologists, geologists, GIS and CAD experts, and administrative personnel. They are currently looking to hire experienced engineers for international development assignments with their recent USAID award.
Within the United States, their experience spans 11 states and roughly 75% of water rights cases involving Native American tribes in the western U.S. Their clients include government agencies, water utilities, irrigation districts, judiciary systems, communities, tribal councils, attorneys, and engineering firms from all civil, water, and environmental disciplines and specialties.
Outside the U.S., NRCE’s experts have worked on four continents, most recently improving the water supply in Eritrea, East Africa.
Fields of Service:
Surface Water Hydrology - An effective water resources development, management, and conservation plan begins with accurate knowledge of the frequency, distribution, circulation, and quantity of surface water supply. NRCE’s extensive experience in all areas of surface water hydrology allows their staff to analyze and characterize surface water systems from the smallest ungauged creeks to the largest watersheds. We regularly work with existing data sets, establish new monitoring systems, and develop custom models.
Groundwater Services - Groundwater supplies are a critical adjunct to surface water supplies, in many cases forming the largest component in a given water resources plan. NRCE’s wealth of groundwater resources experience allows for custom-tailored solutions for each client and every project.
Water Rights - NRCE has unparalleled expertise providing technical assistance to government, tribal, and private entities and irrigation districts in water rights disputes. Their staff provides water rights consulting services ranging from reconnaissance level studies to expert witness testimony for most of the major watersheds in the western United States. They have helped clients to quantify and secure several million acre-feet of water rights through litigation and negotiated settlements. Their clients have included the federal government, over 65 tribal governments, municipalities, utility companies, irrigation districts, individual farmers, and private attorneys.
Agricultural Engineering - NRCE’s engineers help clients assure feasible, cost effective, sensible water resource management for all agricultural applications. Their assessments accurately determine ideal crop selection, target water requirements, and optimal irrigation system design. From detailed feasibility and improvement studies to precise system design, we are an indispensable partner to farming communities.
Water Collection & Treatment Systems - No matter where one lives, maintaining a clean water source for consumption is vital. From small communities to developing nations, NRCE helps with the planning, development, delivery, treatment, discharge, and reuse of this precious resource. The appropriate solutions may differ significantly from urban to remote, municipal to industrial, and domestic to international projects. The diversity of our experience allows us to forge solutions that are consistent with the environmental, financial, and regulatory demands of each given project. We utilize computer-aided design and modeling techniques to optimize system performance and ensure cost-effective solutions.
Surface Transportation Design - NRCE believes in creating safe, efficient, cost-effective, and innovative surface transportation solutions. We focus on meeting current transportation needs with a vision toward enabling future expansion. Their services extend from planning and design through construction management, including all required engineering support systems.
Environmental & Watershed Studies - NRCE’s expertise in hydrology, water resources, land management, agricultural production, and water use has become invaluable in understanding, preserving, and planning for future generations. The range of their diverse technical capabilities renders NRCE exceptionally well qualified to address a broad range of watershed-level evaluations.
Construction Management - Proper administration and execution can be as critical to every project’s success as well-crafted plans and designs. NRCE takes an active role in assuring success throughout every stage of construction. They minimize budget overruns by working to maintain schedules and reduce change orders.
CAD, GIS, & GPS Services - Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and satellite imagery software have revolutionized engineering design and analysis and have become indispensable tools in their trade. The tools and software they use are on the absolute cutting edge of engineering design technology and make natural resource and transportation planning not only more accurate but also much more timely and cost-effective. They produce an array of map and design products for fieldwork, data collection, planning, construction, decision support, litigation, presentations, and reports. See more
