About

NBA Cares is the league's social responsibility program that builds on the NBA's long tradition of addressing important social issues in the United States and around the world. Since its 2005 launch, the league and teams have raised more than Since October 2005 when NBA Cares was launched, the league, players and teams have raised more than $242 million for charity, provided more than 3 million hours of hands-on service, and built more than 915 places where kids and families can live, learn or play in communities around the world.

NBA Cares is the league’s global social responsibility program that builds on the NBA’s mission of addressing important social issues.

NBA Cares programs and participants have provided more than 3.9 million hours of hands-on service and created more than 1,080 places where kids and families can live, learn or play in communities around the world.  The NBA also engages more than 12 million youth annually, inspiring play and teaching the values of the game.

NBA Cares works with internationally-recognized of youth-serving programs that support education, youth and family development, and health-related causes including: UNICEF; Reading Is Fundamental; Habitat for Humanity; Boys and Girls Clubs of America; Charities Aid Foundation; Feed the Children, and many others. As an active member in the global community it became evident that joining the effort to bring awareness and help in the eradication of malaria was an important international social issue for NBA Cares.

Nothing But Nets allows NBA Cares to join forces with the United Nations Foundation to not only raise awareness for malaria, but to allow fans to be an active part of the fight against the disease. For a donation of ten dollars, fans can not only purchase a bed net, but have the knowledge the bed net will be delivered to the people that need them the most through the impressive fulfillment process. 

Programs
The NBA's community outreach programs continue to address social issues, including education, environmental protection, health and wellness, and youth and family development. These programs provide young people with the opportunities and resources that are critical to their future success and development. Additionally, NBA teams have plenty of opportunity to give back to their communities year-round through these programs. 

NBA/WNBA FIT
The league’s health and wellness initiative, NBA/WNBA FIT, encourages physical activity and healthy living through events, programs and products for children and families. 

NBA Green
In partnership with the Natural Resources Defense Council, the NBA is taking steps to become a more environmentally responsible organization through the NBA Green initiative. The NBA family has teamed up to generate awareness and funding to protect the environment.

NBA Cares Hoops for Troops
The NBA, WNBA and D-League are committed to supporting their active and retired service men and women and their families around the world. Through the NBA Cares Hoops for Troops program, teams and current and former players honor military and their families through a variety of activation including in-arena nights, military base visits, ticket programs, in-game activation and meet & greets with Wounded Warriors.

Community Assist
The league presents the Community Assist Award monthly throughout the season as well as a final award at the end of the season to recognize players for their year-round charitable efforts. The award honors the NBA player who best reflects the passion that the league and its players have for giving back to their communities.

Basketball Without Borders
Basketball without Borders is the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development program that uses the sport to create positive social change in the areas of education, health and wellness. These camps bring top youth players together to train under NBA players and coaches and compete against their peers.
