The Neelan Tiruchelvam Trust (NTT) was established in 2001, two years after the assassination of Dr. Neelan Tiruchelvam, and is devoted to sustaining his intellectual legacy as a peacemaker, legislator, constitutional lawyer and institution builder.
As an independent, indigenous and philanthropic grant making organization, the NTT is well positioned to understanding the issues surrounding the various communities that make up the fabric that is Sri Lanka, while addressing them not only in a country specific manner, but also in a regional and even community specific manner. With this expertise as its forte, the NTT aims to support sustainable measures that are inclusive, pluralistic, and uphold the sanctity of life.
The Trust focuses on six thematic areas, and has successfully implemented projects with over 110 grantees across the country.
The Trust is spearheaded by a Board of Trustees, the members of which function in an honorary capacity, giving leadership and guidance to the workings of the establishment.
Subsequent to formal and informal constultations with all stakeholders, the NTT together with it’s Board of Trustees has identified the following 6 areas of intervention as a priority;
- Promotion of Democracy, Good Governance and Institution Building
- Promoting and Achieving Social Justice
- Promoting and Protecting the Rights of Women
- Promoting Pluralistic Values
- Engaging Youth in Social Transformation
- Promoting Arts and Culture to Further the Understanding of Rights and Peace
