New Energy Economy

New Energy Economy is a registered 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization established in 2004 to create economic opportunity in New Mexico with less carbon pollution and more clean energy. NEE works in partnership with diverse allies to encourage job growth, investment and innovation in a more efficient, sustainable and equitable energy sector. New Energy Economy (NEE) was founded in 2003 to build a carbon-free energy future for our health and the environment. New Energy Economy employs public education, community organizing, targeted litigation methods, and model solar energy projects to shift their energy economy from fossil fuel and nuclear extraction to clean alternatives in pursuit of environmental justice and human and environmental health. NEE received the 2012 Sustainable Santa Fe Award in Renewable Energy for its Sol Not Coal Project, the Santa Fe Community Foundation's prestigious VISIONARY LEADER award in 2013, and the Sustainable Santa Fe Award in Public Policy Advocacy in 2014. New Energy Economy is an IRS recognized 501c3 Non-Profit Organization.  At New Energy Economy they employ an interwoven strategy of confronting and opposing the root cause of climate disruption AND creating alternative projects that build on their established strengths and provide sustainable community engagement opportunities. It will take all of them to improve their climate and support their economy, therefore it is critically important that capacity-building and engagement around a clean energy economy reflect the diversity of their community. New Energy Economy sees its role as that of interpreter and capacity-builder. They provide the technical and legal information that communities across New Mexico need to protect themselves from the social, economic, health, and environmental costs of extractive energy and to realize their visions for a sustainable energy future. They educate, organize, and build the capacity of community leaders in order to cultivate energy democracy as well as provide opportunities for communities to raise their voices for clean, affordable energy alternatives.  New Energy Economy also works with communities to expose the vision of what’s possible by creating model community projects with tangible results aligned with policy goals.
