Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global, experiential, research university built on a tradition of engagement with the world, creating a distinctive approach to education and research. The university offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs leading to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools, and select advanced degrees at graduate campuses in Charlotte, North Carolina, Seattle, Silicon Valley, and Toronto. Diversity & Inclusion Diversity of thought, culture, and viewpoint is necessary to growth, in individuals and societies. Diversity expands their potential to develop solutions to global challenges and teaches them how to be agile thinkers and learners. Living and working in diverse and inclusive environments enables them to confidently navigate different cultures, intellectual perspectives, and workplace challenges, and identify and integrate the people, knowledge, and technologies needed to create tomorrow’s sustainable communities. With this perspective in mind, this portal was created to share the broad range of diversity and inclusion-related efforts integrated throughout the learning and living experience at Northeastern University. The highlighted initiatives, programs, centers and projects featured on this portal introduce you to a network of efforts built through and for their student body, their faculty, campus staff, and the local and global community. Sustainability Across all dimensions of its mission, Northeastern embraces environmental sustainability as a core value. This is driven by the fact that Northeastern is a university in tune with the world—including the world’s greatest global challenges. Northeastern’s commitment to leadership in sustainability is manifest in all areas of operations: in how they teach their students, in how they drive their research, and in how they operate their campus. With nearly 200 courses that integrate sustainability, with expected research funding in excess of $45 million this year, and with a pledge to reduce their carbon footprint by 80 percent before 2050, Northeastern’s pursuit of a sustainable future is relentless.
