Office of the President of the Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) (Tanzania)
The establishment of the Ministry of Regional Administration and Local Government is mentioned in the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania Article 8 (1) 145 and 146 of 1977 and the following many other amendments.
In 1982 under the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania it passed the Local Government No 7 (Act 287) Act and the City Authorities Act No. 8 (Cap 288).
These two laws gave authority to the Minister dealing with regional and local government authorities on the establishment of District, Village, Minor, and Local Government Authorities.
However, the Ministry has undergone changes in its services under the Ministry as follows:
The Ministry was known as the Ministry of Local Government, Social Development, Cooperation and Marketing in the late 1990s.
The work of the Ministries was transferred to the Prime Minister's office and thus created two departments that were involved in Regional Administration and Local Government Administration.
In that year MRALG's work was transferred to the Presidential Office (PORALG).
Ministry duties were relocated to the Prime Minister's Office (PMORALG)
However, in December, 2015 the work of the Ministry was relocated to the Presidential Office of the Regional Administration and Local Government that continues to date.See more
