Oficina para el Reordenamiento del Transporte (OPRET)
The Office for the Reordering of Transportation (OPRET) is an institution created by means of Decree No. 477-05 of a transitory nature, which was ratified by Decree No. 708-11.
With the responsibility of:
a) Design and present to the Presidency of the Republic a draft of the Comprehensive Transport Policy, for its timely promulgation, implementation and execution.
b) Perform the necessary technical, legal and institutional studies to form an autonomous and unique transport authority, for the administration of the policy mentioned in the previous paragraph, and for the regulation and control of transport transit services in the Dominican Republic .
c) To form an executing unit capable of planning, designing, building, commissioning, operating and maintaining the various lines of the future Mass Rapid Transportation System (SITRAM) that will constitute the backbone of the Master Network of the Integrated System in the city of Santo Domingo and the other cities of the country that deserve it, in joint action with the corresponding bus and minibus feeder routes.
Subsequently, Article 356 of Law No. 63-17, on Mobility, Land Transportation, Traffic and Road Safety of the Dominican Republic of February 24, 2017, establishes that the Office for the Reordering of Transportation (OPRET) will become a Public or private public-private company providing national rail and cable transport services. The process for the transformation of OPRET to a company with the character established by the Law, is underway.
