Oikos - Cooperation and Development is an internationally recognized non-governmental organization for development. We work in communities and regions of the poorest countries, promoting access to public health, food, water, sanitation and education. Our activities, including the promotion of Sustainable Living and Education for Global Citizenship, served more than 380,000 beneficiaries per year. We work in the following countries: Portugal, Peru, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Cuba, El Salvador, Angola and Mozambique.
Our humanitarian work spans three phases:
1. Emergency - in the following priority sectors: water supply, shelter, food, toiletries and health care.
2. Rehabilitation - The goal is to help disaster victims recover their basic means of livelihood and rebuilding basic social infrastructure (health clinics, schools, etc.).
3. Disaster Prevention and Preparedness - Helping local communities to develop prevention strategies and risk management, thus minimizing future impacts.
