About

The Ontario Sustainable Energy Association (OSEA) is Ontario’s lead advocate, facilitator and catalyst for sector transformation and the transition to a more sustainable energy economy.

Vision:  prosperous Ontario with a thriving sustainable energy sector, good jobs, resilient communities and healthy environments powered, heated, cooled and moved by portfolios of sustainable energy.

Mission:  to raise public awareness, advise decision makers and establish forums for new market opportunities and collaboration.

Who does OSEA represent?
OSEA serves as an advocate for individuals, manufacturers, installers, developers, municipalities, First Nations, unions, farmers, co-operatives and other community organizations, NGO's and other associations supportive of, and engaged in, the full portfolio of sustainable energy solutions.

Who does OSEA work with?
Their partners include likely and unlikely allies who want to be part of OSEA's collaborative efforts to grow the pie for all Ontarians creating a more sustainable province and who want to help tackle the root causes of social friction during the energy transition to a portfolio of 100% sustainable energy.

What is Community Power?
Community Power is a class of sustainable energy projects that are owned, developed and controlled in full or in part (50 per cent or more) by residents of the community in which the project is located.

What they do?

Advocacy - OSEA advocates government policies and programs that will advance the generation of sustainable energy and resolve the administrative and regulatory hurdles that are obstructing the development of community-owned sustainable energy projects.

Ontario sustainability services - Ontario Sustainability Services (OSS) is OSEA's service wing. We assist community groups and individuals in developing their own renewable energy projects.

Policy work and regulatory work  - OSE advocates on behalf of its members and the larger Community Power and Renewable Energy sectors.  Our collaborative approach and ground breaking work on policy and regulatory best practices has resulted in successes that include:

  • OSEA initiated and led the highly successful campaign for a Green Energy Act for Ontario, which was passed in May 2009.
  • OSEA was also instrumental in the introduction in 2004 of the Renewable Standard Offer Program, the precursor to the current feed-in tariff program offered by the Ontario Power Authority
