Open Arms Perinatal Services

Working in the Puget Sound region since 1997, Open Arms Perinatal Services is a nonprofit focused on strong community-based support for women through pregnancy, birth, and early childhood. They currently support 17 different languages, and serve over 200 new mothers and over 200 babies each year. They carefully pair clients with trained doulas who are a cultural and/or language match whenever possible. Open Arms has served over 2,500 clients and conducted over 18,000 home visits to help improve maternal and infant health, as well as build healthy foundations for early learning. Open Arms is the only non-profit providing doula services specifically for low-income women in Washington State. The time around the birth of a baby is a transformational time for women and is a tremendous opportunity to support families in getting the best start in life. Through doula care and breastfeeding peer support, they achieve better health outcomes, strengthen mother-baby bonding and increase parental self-advocacy skills. Open Arms’ unique services include home visits beginning during pregnancy, attendance at the birth of the baby and ongoing support. They provide referrals and early parenting education up to two years after a baby is born. They also provide home visits by trained counselors to support breastfeeding. Vision Open Arms embraces a world that cherishes birthing women, their babies, families, and communities. Mission Open Arms provides services that support, educate, respect, honor, and empower women and their families from pregnancy through birth to early parenting.
