Opportunity International provides small business loans, savings, insurance and training to more than two million people working their way out of poverty in the developing world. Clients in over 20 countries use these financial services to start or expand a business, provide for their families, create jobs for their neighbors and build a safety net for the future. Opportunity International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, incorporated and registered in Illinois. Opportunity International works with fundraising operations in the United States, Australia, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom to help create a sustainable approach to help fight global poverty. Contributions from individuals, governments, corporations and foundations are leveraged through commercial borrowings and client savings to signifcantly increase the size of the loan pool and provide additional funds for the work in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Work: Opportunity International provides financial products and strategies to over two million people working their way out of poverty in the developing world. Clients in more than 20 countries can use these services to expand a business, provide for their families, create jobs for their neighbors and build a safety net for the future. The microfinance products made it possible for market vendors to fill their stalls with goods, artisans to make a profit, educators to expand schools and farmers to move beyond subsistence. Opportuntiy has : > 1,357,828 active loans - develop businesses, increase incomes, provide for families and create jobs for neighbors. > 562,101 savings accounts - give clients a secure place to save and grow earnings. > 1,016,507 microinsurance policyholders - protect their families with life, health and crop insurance. > $567 million in assets, including a loan portfolio of $388 million, represents significant capital used to build under-resourced communities.
