Oranjewoud's history starts in 1951 with the founding of Bosma’s Ingenieursbureau voor Cultuurtechnische Werken [Engineering Firm for Cultural Projects] by brothers Jan and Freek Bosma. In the early years the firm concentrated on major land development projects in Friesland. In the 1960s the firm expanded outside the North and started working for local authorities and water boards. The company name was changed to Ingenieursbureau Oranjewoud. Gasunie became a major client in the mid-60s. The firm also expanded to Belgium and France.
In 2005 Oranjewoud was taken over by the ICT service provider, Centric, which is run by Gerard Sanderink. The consultancy and engineering firm became part of the listed enterprise Oranjewoud NV and experienced extreme growth. The firm made several major acquisitions, including in the United States and in France. From 2011 the international affiliated companies were incorporated under the name Antea Group. In the Netherlands, the firm continues to trade as Advies- en Ingenieursbureau Oranjewoud.
