As established by the Political Constitution of the Republic of Guatemala, the Judicial Body is in charge of dispensing justice, with independence and power to judge. The Law of the Judicial Organism cites that in exercise of the sovereignty delegated by the people, it imparts justice in accordance with the constitutional text.
The legal framework of the Judicial Body and the Supreme Court of Justice is defined in the Political Constitution of the Republic of Guatemala, Articles 203 to 222; in the Law of the Judicial Organism, Decree No. 2-89 and its reforms, and in other ordinary laws of the State.
