Born ONIC
In the 1960s the indigenous peoples were integrated into the standard bearers land struggles by peasants sectors. Later, in the seventies, the establishment of the Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca (CRIC) led to the creation of different regional organizations, with the aim of promoting an indigenous political platform.
Culture
Is all that they are, they think, how they live, and what makes us different from the non-indigenous world and among peoples. It is a social construct, learned through the centuries in the process of appropriation of ancestral, such as language, medicine, dances, songs, spirituality, ritual knowledge, care practices of people and beings in the territory.
Autonomy
It refers to the exercise and ability to organize and decide how to govern our territories. It must exercise autonomy from the law of origin and the law, and involves the struggle for recognition of their own systems of government and justice.
Own government
The ONIC is a government authority, justice, law and representation of indigenous peoples in Colombia. In its structure there are the following instances:
National Congress
It is the highest governing authority of the indigenous peoples of the ONIC and meets every four years. Reflections and decisions of each congress are contained in the Political Mandate; there the work and policies of the organization for the next period is defined. They participate in the congress delegates from all organizations affiliated to the ONIC.
Authorities Assembly
It is composed of the directors and major subsidiaries of the ONIC. It is the highest authority of the organization while not in session Congress.
Indigenous Parliament
It is the body responsible for drafting and discuss own laws within the framework of the autonomy of indigenous peoples.
