OYO Corporation was founded in 1954 by Dr Atsuo Fukada (1922 - ), a former professor of geology at Hokkaido University, and Dr Kunio Suyama (1921 - 1993), a former geological investigation engineer on the Geological Survey of Japan Team, Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). OYO was founded as a general consulting firm specialising in geological investigation based on the concept of "Geo-engineering". Geo-engineering means the integration of the pure sciences of geology and geophysics with the applied science of civil engineering. Geo-engineering is therefore an interdisciplinary field serving as a tool for the solution of a variety of geotechnical problems.
Dr Fukada and Dr Suyama were a very effective founding team: the one based in pure science and the other based in the application of geological investigation for civil engineering projects. As scientists, they also had a very clear business philosophy of transparency and rationality. The employment of relatives was declared prohibited as a matter of corporate principle and this has been pursued to this day. Avoiding the pitfalls of a family company means also gaining a professional equality among employees and the encouragement of excellence: notably technical excellence.
Based on a management philosophy and a management vision as shown below, OYO adds engineering creativity to its engineering asset cultivated throughout corporate history, so that OYO could develop distinguished services that support safer and securer society in more certain manner.
Also, OYO Group as a whole establishes the following OYO Group Vision to reinforce internal understanding of our mission, which is, to pioneer safer and securer being of society from specialists’ perspectives on geoscience.
OYO keeps on challenging the best of its technologies for problem-solving to achieve a future society where human society and natural environment harmonize each other.
