PYSSUM is a non-profit voluntary organization focussed to serve the intellectually disabled individuals of the society through its own Guidelines, Objectives and Resources. Though working independently, we draw inspiration from the “How to live” principles given in the spiritual teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda Ji. PYSSUM cherishes good wishes and spiritual blessings of the Guru through His family of followers. However administratively or financially PYSSUM and Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) (www.yssofinidia.org) / Self Realization Fellowship (SRF) (www.srf-yogananda.org), the organisation founded by Sri Sri. Paramahansa Yogananda are two different organisations under the law.
All the activities or efforts at PYSSUM are planned by its own board of directors comprising of seven honorary members, namely, Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and four members at large. The board is also voluntarily guided by a governing body, comprising of voluntary members chosen by the consent of board of directors. For the day to day support towards all our activities at various centres namely PYSSUM Child Development Centre (PCDC), PYSSUM Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Centre (PVTRC) or PYSSUM Research and Training Centre (PRTC), the PYSSUM board is represented by the Chief Functionary in voluntary capacity unanimously chosen by the board.
VISION
PYSSUM cherishes the vision of time when people in our historical city of Lucknow truely start acknowledging every person with special needs as an individual having the right to live and enjoy her or his life like everyone else around them. We, at PYSSUM, wish to extend this vision to our beautiful state of Uttar Pradesh and take our efforts, small or big, to as far as we can in all parts of our great nation India.
WHAT THEY DO
PYSSUM, being a progressive voluntary organisation takes great pride in organizing all in house or outdoor activities related to the intellectually challenged individuals within its reach with highly professional approach. Essentially, we have three areas of services, firstly “Early Intervention” and “Learning-Skills” of children with Developmental Challenges in the age group up to 17 yrs. This is done in a school setting of PYSSUM Child Development Centre (PCDC). Secondly, development of Vocational Skills, Training
and Rehabilitation of adults with special needs above the age of 17 through
PYSSUM Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Centre (PVTRC) and thirdly, training of those who are interested in serving the intellectual disability sector, through
PYSSUM Research and Training Centre (PRTC).
All these centres are supplemented and supported by a good number of disability experts namely Special Educators, Speech Therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Psychologists, Vocational Trainers, Administrators and Volunteers. Bringing awareness is one of major aims of PYSSUM and a lot of activities like the Anand Utsav – The Festival of Joy (Cultural and Sports), Exhibition cum Sale of the products prepared by PVTC trainees, Seminars and Workshops, Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) Programmes, Parents Group Meetings or any other activity that would benefit not only the cause of our angels, in general, but also those who are involved with the special children in any capacity.
