Peace Child International is a charitable organisation based in the UK. They have ECOSOC status at the United Nations, and for more than 30 years have worked to empower young people through youth-led development.
They believe in the power of youth-led development. Through their innovative employability and entrepreneurship programmes they are working to improve jobs and livelihoods for thousands of young people around the world. They encourage young people to get informed and give them all the tools and support they need to create positive change in their own lives and that of their communities.
Their youth network are the driving force behind PCI, they tell them what is most important to them and help them plan and execute their organisational goals and strategy. This is what they call Youth-Led Development – a term coined at their first World Youth Congress in 1999.
Mission
To improve the livelihoods of young people in the developed and developing world through employability and entrepreneurial trainings.
Vision
Their vision is a future in which every young person has the skills, confidence and opportunity to achieve decent work.
Values
They value the ideas, voices and goals of youth, understanding that young people want the opportunities to take an active role in their society.
Theory of Change
At Peace Child, they’ve developed a unique model to create fundamental and self-sustaining change on a scale far beyond what they could achieve on their own. Their theory of change creates a virtuous circle: young people are trained to train others, who train and mentor others, and so on – creating young entrepreneurs that fuel economic development, create more jobs and boost further development.
Consult
They talk to their network of tens of thousands of young people in 130 countries and they base their employment programmes on their insights.
Partner
They join forces with organisations and institutions who provide the support, expertise or influence young people need.
Empower
Working with these partners they provide education, training, mentoring and investment capital to thousands of young people.
Catalyse
Each young person they support is taught to mentor their peers, who in turn can mentor their peers, and so on.
Consult
With a job or their own business young people can fund economic development – creating greater employment opportunities for young people.
