The National Pharmacy Supply (PNA) is a state institution created in 1954 to meet the medical and pharmaceutical needs of French West Africa (AOF). The National Pharmacy Supply became a public service dependent Ministry of Health after the independence of Senegal by Ministerial Order 75-49 of 12 May 1975.
Decree 79-416 of 14 May 1979 strengthened its legal existence. This is the organization note No3669 / MSP / DC / DAMPET of 06 September 1989 which describes the main functions of the PNA. Which functions are: purchase, storage and distribution. Ministerial Order No. 5525 of 4 July 1991 on the organization of the PNA attached to it the Regional Supply Pharmacy (PRA) of Dakar, Kaolack, Saint-Louis, Tambacounda and Ziguinchor which, previously, relieved of medical regions. The ANP is today represented in the 11 regions of the 14 of Senegal that are: Dakar, Diourbel, Fatick, Kaolack, Kolda, Louga, Matam, St. Louis, Tambacounda, Thies and Ziguinchor.
Its current status is enshrined in Act No. 98-12 of 2 March 1998 on the Hospital Reform and Decree No. 99-851 of 27 August 1999 on the establishment of the PNA in a non-hospital Public Health Establishment. It is thus placed under the financial supervision of the Ministry of Finance and under the technical supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Action. The PNA operates on own funds and has administrative and financial autonomy.
Its main mission is to provide the poorest populations with the financial and geographical accessibility of medicines and other essential health products. Affordability implies that the NAP can buy on the domestic and international market at prices low enough to provide the population with quality drugs at a lower cost. Geographic accessibility implies the rationalization of its distribution function so that populations, through public health facilities and PRAs, have access to medicines in the most remote geographical areas of the country.
