Through educating
Philanthropy Ohio knows what matters to those engaged in philanthropy, whether you’re an individual or part of a giving circle, foundation, United Way or corporate giving program. They bring high-quality educational programs to every part of the state, including statewide programs like our Philanthropy Forward conference
Through informing
Their annual member surveys tell them that they’re the preferred source for the latest knowledge and best tools that can help you become more effective in your philanthropic endeavors. Monthly electronic newsletters bring the latest reports and resources to your inbox while their website offers a 24/7 searchable library of hundreds of sample documents and policies to help you. Other online resources include a member directory so you can find and connect to your peers across the state. And, staff members are available to answer questions, research issues and provide technical assistance as well as publications such as their annual Ohio Gives and Salary & Benefits reports.
Through convening
Bringing people together is something they do really well, connecting philanthropy with key external audiences including elected and appointed policymakers, the business community, media and nonprofits, all in an effort to advance the causes of philanthropy in the state. They also convene and manage a number of funder networks organized by issue, geography and giving structure.
Through advocating
Philanthropy Ohio is the recognized advocate representing the interests of Ohio philanthropists in the state and the nation. Their legislative agenda includes working to safeguard the federal deduction for charitable giving and extending the IRA Charitable Rollover. They also work with members to tackle critical Ohio policy reform issues related to education and health as well as creating a tax credit for gifts to endowments at community foundations.
Through connecting
They’re the network that links philanthropy in all its forms to peers across the state, ensuring that you have a broad, strong group of people to tap into for experience and advice. You can connect in person at skill-building and professional development workshops and electronically via listservs and during webinars.
