The Philippine Association of Crab Processors, Inc. (PACPI) is a group of blue swimming crab (BSC) processing and exporting companies that operates mainly within the Visayas area. The association was founded in May 2009 in an effort to foster good relationship among the crab processing sectors and to support initiatives aimed at promoting blue swimming crab sustainability in the country. At present, 5 major companies operating in the Philippines are members of PACPI, representing the majority of the BSC industry players, and are actively providing financial support in the implementation of BSC sustainability projects. The following companies are members of PACPI:
Bacolod Blue Star Export Corporation
Central Seafoods, Inc.
Phil-Union Frozen Foods, Inc.
RGE Agridev Corporation
Cebu Canning Corporation “C3”
Byrd International Seafoods Cebu, Inc.
The Phillips Seafoods Philippines Corporation was also a member of PACPI. However, the company stopped its operations in 2012.
PACPI seeks to develop the common good and well-being of the blue swimming crab industry through:
Collaborative work with government institutions and the academe
Integrated approach to industry sustainability with various stakeholders
Active information and education campaign (e.g. press releases, community visits)
Achievement of harmonious business relationship among the members
Development of projects that could help protect and enhance the existing supply of blue swimming crab in the Philippine waters.
Partnerships and Support
PACPI believes in an integrated approach to crab management – that a sustainable BSC fishery can only be achieved through a combination of collaborative effort s of all industry players and stakeholders, coupled with well-informed policies and well-enforced ordinances. This principle is illustrated in the diagram at the right.
