PKP Intercity S.A. is the largest Polish rail operator specializing in domestic and international long-distance transport. The company was established in 2001 as a result of the restructuring of Polskie Koleje Państwowe (Polish State Railways), and was in January 2008 transformed into a joint-stock company. It currently employs over 7,000 people.

PKP Intercity connects the centres of large towns and cities and popular tourist resorts at home and enables comfortable travel through Europe. Every day the carrier starts over 300 trains and in 2013 in excess of 30 m passengers made use of its services. Beyond a number of changes in the sphere of customer service, PKP Intercity has rolling stock projects in progress worth over PLN 5.6 bn. By 2015 new or modernized trains will constitute 70% of PKP Intercity rolling stock.
