PKP Szybka Kolej Miejska w Trójmieście Sp. z o. o. was established by the Founding Act on December 22, 2000, and started its independent operating activity as a commercial law company on July 1, 2001.
PKP SKM w Trójmieście Sp. z o. o. operates:
- railway infrastructure managers, managing the railway line No. 250 Gdańsk Główny - Rumia, dedicated to the implementation of agglomeration passenger transport,
- a railway carrier, providing rail transport services:
- public utility, performing tasks under the Agreement No. 1095 / U / 18 for the performance of rail passenger transport in the Pomeranian Voivodeship as part of the public service obligation, concluded with the Self-Government of the Pomorskie Voivodeship, as the statutory Transport Organizer;
- occasional (commercial), upon request and against payment of interested external entities, in particular on the section Gdańsk Główny - Gdańsk Stadion-Expo.
Moreover, PKP SKM w Trójmieście Sp. z o. o. is also the Operator of Service Infrastructure Facilities (OIU). PKP SKM w Trójmieście Sp. z o. o. provides public utility rail transport on the following communication lines in the area of the Pomeranian Voivodeship:
- SKM Gdańsk Śródmieście - Wejherowo - Lębork communication line, using e.g. railway line No. 250 (SKM), on which there is essentially agglomeration traffic;
- communication lines of the PKM system - functioning e.g. based on railway lines No. 248 and 253, managed by Pomorska Kolej Metropolitalna SA:
- Gdańsk Wrzeszcz - Gdańsk Airport - Kartuzy,
- Gdynia Główna - Gdańsk Wrzeszcz - Gdańsk Airport - Kościerzyna,
- Gdynia Główna - Gdańsk Osowa - Kościerzyna,
- Gdynia Główna - Gdańsk Osowa - Gdańsk Airport - Gdańsk Wrzeszcz.
PKP SKM w Trójmieście Sp. z o. o. has 69 railway vehicles, including:
- 59 own electric multiple units of four series (EN57, EN57AKM, EN71 and 31WE);
- 10 diesel multiple units of two series (SA133 and SA136), owned by the Pomeranian Voivodeship and intended for servicing diesel traction railway connections on PKM communication lines.
