Located in Brussels, Plan EU Office strives to ensure that the promotion and protection of child rights is a priority for the EU’s external action in policy and practice, while strengthening Plan’s partnership with the EU. We aim to ensure that children’s voices are heard and included in EU policy making. Plan EU Office represents Plan Europe to the European Union Institutions. Plan Europe is a network within Plan linking 11 European national offices and Plan’s 50 offices in the developing world. Plan has the active support of 700,000 individual donors in EU member states through child sponsorship.
Focus Areas
Plan EU Office’s work focuses on a few key thematic areas:
Gender Equality
Plan advocates for greater gender equality in the design and implementation of EU policies and programmes. Throughout the world, girls face double discrimination on account of their gender and age, leaving them at the bottom of the social ladder.
Education
Plan helps children, young people and adults to get the knowledge and life skills they need to realise their full potential.
Health
From supporting immunisation programmes to training volunteers on strategies to combat malaria, Plan’s health programmes help to save thousands of children’s lives every year.
Child Protection
Violence against children is widespread and has a devastating impact – threatening children’s survival, development and participation in society. Read more
Child Participation
Plan helps millions of children to learn about their rights and take an active role in their communities’ development.
Action for Global Health
Plan Europe is an active partner in the Action for Global Health network.
AfGH is a broad European network of NGOs advocating for Europe to play a more proactive role in enabling developing countries to meet the Health Millennium Development Goals by 2015. Active in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK and Brussels, it counts a membership of almost 30 NGOs, and is growing every day.
Our main actions take place in Europe, particularly Brussels and EU member states, targeting the EU institutions and key member state governments. We develop policy analysis and research, engaging with other civil society groups both in Brussels and throughout the EU, to build advocacy alliances. We reach out to decision-makers and the media so as to influence EU decisions on global health and highlight the need for action to meet the Health MDGs. Our messages and our policy expertise are built through research in Europe and in developing countries, where we benefit from the expertise and evidence provided by Southern partners of our member organisations.
