The State of Senegal benefited from funding from the International Development Association (IDA) for the implementation of the Investing in the Early Years Project for Human Development in Senegal. This project contributes to the integrated development of early childhood (DIPE), which has become one of the major levers for strengthening human capital.

The early years of life are characterized by missed opportunities for far too many children, undermining the development of their potential. Outcomes for children are low across a wide range of human development indicators and efforts to improve them are limited by an inefficient and fragmented service delivery system.

To sustainably address these various constraints, Senegal, in conjunction with the World Bank, has formulated a project entitled “Investing in the first years of life for the human development of Senegal”.

This project contributes to the implementation of the second pillar of the PSE, which focuses on the development of human capital through improved nutrition and health for mothers and children, better protection of children and improved quality of early learning services.

The PSE is implemented through strategic sector plans, notably those relating to the areas of education, health, and protection of child development and nutrition and will support the implementation of specific strategies related to child development, arising from these sectoral plans.

The project development objective is to improve the delivery of certain services that promote early childhood development in underserved areas of Senegal.

The project's intervention primarily covers the regions of Matam, Kolda, Diourbel, Kaffrine, Tambacounda, Fatick, Kaolack through the provision of education, health and nutrition services and child protection.
