About

Project Peanut Butter is a non-profit organization that produces and provides ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) to severely malnourished children, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa. They are currently working in Malawi, Sierra Leone, Mali and the Philippines.

Founded by Dr. Mark Manary, Project Peanut Butter has been a pioneer in the discovery of a highly effective, peanut-based ready-to-use therapeutic food and the treatment of malnutrition in Sub-Sahara Africa. Every Child Fed is currently working with Project Peanut Butter in Sierra Leone and Mali to eradicate malnutrition in those nations.

Project Peanut Butter is a thoroughly local program; all of the malnutrition clinics operated by PPB are assisted by village health workers or “Health Surveillance Assistants” (HSAs) who are government employees. Additionally, PPB partners with the Malawian government hospitals who have their own malnutrition clinics all over Southern Malawi, and all of the Chiponde is produced locally in Blantyre, Malawi by an all-Malawian staff with Malawian ingredients.

Today, Project Peanut Butter serves thousand of malnourished children. The program distributes peanut-based, vitamin-enriched nutritional packets called Ready to Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTFs) through 21 clinics, approximately 50 supported sites that receive RUTFs and training at no cost, and at affiliated clinics that receive RUTFs through approximately 90 governments and charities around the world that buy the packets at cost of manufacture.

Mission: Project Peanut Butter (PPB) seeks to advance the treatment of severe malnutrition, the single largest cause of child death in the world today, using effective, locally produced ready-to-use therapeutic foods. This nonprofit is formed to provide needed nutritional and medical support primarily to children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in sub-Saharan Africa and beyond.
