About

Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Indonesia is a coalition of civil society for transparency and accountability in the governance of oil and gas extractive resources, mining and natural resources. Established in 2007, and registered as an Indonesian legal entity since 2012 under the name of the Extractive Resources Transparency Foundation with the registration number of the AHU-002650.10.2014 foundation. Publish What You Pay Indonesia was established aiming for accountable and transparent governance of extractive resources in Indonesia and at the global level, aggregating public interests from the perspective of civil society organizations, and strengthening the capacity of civil society to play a strong role and active involvement in reform of extractive resource governance for a just and sustainable development order.

Publish What You Pay Indonesia is affiliated with the Publish What You Pay campaign at the global level that was formed in 2002 with the initial goal of charging extractive companies to publish their payments to the Government. This coalition encouraged the birth of the EITI global initiative (Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative) in various countries rich in natural resources. After a decade, this coalition together with its members widened the scope of its advocacy not only in the income chain but also along the extractive industry value chain.

Vision and mission

The Vision of Publish What You Pay Indonesia is to realize good governance in extractive resources in Indonesia, which is transparent, accountable, and siding with national interests so as to become a capital for social welfare and justice.

  • Increase the involvement of Indonesian people in the management and supervision of extractive resources along the value chain and extractive resource decision making.
  • Encouraging the formation and implementation of extractive resource management policy reforms, especially oil, gas and minerals and other extractive resources that are transparent, fair and sovereign for the welfare of the people.
  • Encouraging the strengthening of the capacity of civil society groups at the local and national levels to encourage transparency and accountability in the governance of extractive resources mining oil, gas, minerals and coal, and other extractive resources.
  • Develop national, local and global campaigns for transparency and accountability in the governance of oil and gas extractive resources, minerals and coal, and other extractive resources

Scope of activity

  • Advocating for policies and other activities that reach broad parties including but not limited to network capacity development, research, public education and education, and policy discussions.
  • Develop national and local advocacy to campaign for transparency and accountability in the governance of extractive oil and gas resources, mining and other extractive resources.
  • Empowering civil society groups at the local and national levels to support transparency and accountability in the governance of extractive oil and gas resources, mining and other natural and extractive resources.
  • Monitor the process of forming and implementing a policy and regulations related to transparency and accountability in the governance of extractive resources.
