Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) was established on 1 January 2003 on the basis of Act No. 77/2002 Coll. SŽDC's basic mission is to serve as the owner and operator of the nationwide and regional railways owned by the state.

RIA provides, in accordance with the Act on Railways, the operation of the nationwide and regional railways owned by the state, in charge of their operability and modernization and development to the extent necessary to ensure the state's transport needs and transport services.

SŽDC manages the assets that make up the railway infrastructure.

SŽDC is a member of the International Union of Railways (UIC), the Community of European Railways and Infrastructure Societies (CER) and other major railway associations.
