The Raising Gabdo Foundation (RGF) works to ensure that Vulnerable people especially the girl child have opportunities to learn and grow so they can contribute to their communities and one day be able to support themselves and their families. Their work with vulnerable people falls into four categories; Economic strengthening and girl child protection, Nutrition, Sexual reproductive health and Education.
Education while carrying out their first activity which is clean energy, in the morning circle they noted that much as English was being taught, the explanations/interpretations were always done in Swahili in most study centers or in a language that is not known to the whole group, they started a Swahili class since at least most people know the language and being an East African community it’s important that one knows some Swahili to benefit from the advantages of East African integration.
With regards to economic strengthening and child protection, while one of their members was attending the ADGM for UNHCR in Uganda in 2015, particularly for the single mothers group one of the concerns was the difficulty to find a safe place to leave the children as the mothers went to work and unfortunately most jobs were in odd hours like late night especially for hotel jobs, they realized that they could use available resources like the UNHCR/IAU community center in Kabuusu to create a work place for the child mothers as the children are being attended to in the day care center. This would help the mothers to stay close to their children, work fewer hours and still earn the same or even more than before.
Nutrition, they work closely with organisations that provide nutrition for communities and often time have scheduled seminars to teach identified groups how to have nutrition. They also hope to develop a line of high nutrition foods first for the focus group and then for realization of income.
