Raleigh International
About

Raleigh International is a youth and sustainable development charity. They run volunteering programs overseas for people from a wide range of backgrounds, nationalities and life stages. Their aim is to increase the leadership and employability skills of young people whilst also raising their awareness of their role as active global citizens.

Raleigh's vision is to create a global community of inspired young people committed to working together regardless of age, social background, culture and nationality, to build and maintain strong and sustainable communities across the globe.

Mission

To bring together people from around the world. To inspire, challenge and develop them to work in partnership as active global citizens. Learning how to build sustainable communities and conserve the environment.

What They Do

As a youth and sustainable development charity, they raise funds to make their expeditions the best possible experience for the volunteers and the local communities. In this role, they act as a catalyst for change, bringing local communities together, sometimes for the first time as one team and giving them the resources and motivation to achieve sustainable development. To do this they work in partnership with local communities, non-governmental organizations and governments in the host countries, following the Millennium Development Goals where they can.

They run meaningful sustainability projects which are designed to create a positive impact in the communities and areas in which they take place, and also increase the leadership, teamwork and employability skills of their volunteers. Volunteers are trained and supported throughout the programmes which can include community, environmental and adventure projects.

Raleigh International operates in Borneo, Costa Rica & Nicaragua, India and Tanzania. They have a permanent field base in these countries. This means they can build up long-term partnerships with local communities, NGOs and government departments, meaning that the projects you work on are genuinely needed and sustainable.

In 1992, Operation Raleigh became Raleigh International

They kept their adventurous spirit and commitment to youth leadership, whilst broadening their programmatic aims to become the diverse and impact-driven charity they are today.

1984: Operation Raleigh was born

Young people volunteered on projects across the globe, building life-long skills and confidence. Nearly 4,000 volunteers took part, creating the foundations of the global community they are today. With over 30 years of experience, they’re experts in supporting young people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Operation Drake began in 1978

A venture launched by HRH Prince Charles and Colonel John Blashford-Snell, Operation Drake had scientific exploration and community service as its aims. It also gave a generation of young people the inspiration to change the world.

They’re still providing that inspiration today.
