RedR Australia
About

RedR Australia is a leading humanitarian agency for international emergency relief. The organization provides skilled people and training to help communities rebuild and recover in times of crisis. When disaster strikes, they mobilise the right people with the right skills to make a difference. Their internationally recognised training courses prepare aspiring aid workers for life in the field and help experienced humanitarians further hone their skills.

RedR Australia is a Standby Partner to seven United Nations and other frontline relief agencies. During a humanitarian crisis, a global network of Standby Partner organisations provides additional support to UN response efforts. They are the only Standby Partner to the UN in the Southern Hemisphere.

When thousands of people flee into neighbouring countries to escape civil war, we’re there to provide clean water and shelter. When entire communities are left homeless by earthquakes or monsoon rains, we’re there to ensure the vulnerable are protected. RedR Australia’s people also repair and rebuild infrastructure, advise on public health, coordinate response efforts and public communication, plan refugee camps, map and track relief activities, ensure access to education for children, and manage the movement of essential supplies.

RedR Australia was established in 1992 by an engineer, Jeff Dobell, who called on his peers to apply their skills to disaster relief. Over the past two decades, we have expanded the breadth of expertise we are able to offer in humanitarian emergencies, deploying more than 700 people to over 70 countries.

In the 2013/2014 financial year, the organization deployed 111 specialists to assist communities in desperate need following disasters and emergencies.

RedR Australia continues to build capacity within the NGO sector through our humanitarian training activities. NGO employees now make up half of the 600 people who attend our core courses annually, and we collaborate with a range of organisations to deliver customised training.

RedR Australia is part of the international RedR network of nationally accredited organisations, each sharing a common vision and mission. RedR is represented in the UK, India, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Malaysia.
