About

Regenstrief Institute, Inc., an internationally recognized informatics and health care research organization, is dedicated to the improvement of health through research that enhances the quality and cost-effectiveness of health care. The Regenstrief Institute, Inc is a joint enterprise of the Regenstrief Foundation, Inc., the Indiana University School of Medicine, and the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Institute investigators include members of the faculty of Indiana University's School of Medicine, School of Liberal Arts, School of Informatics, and staff of the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center.

The Institute receives core support from the Regenstrief Foundation. Grants and contracts from the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, other governmental agencies, national philanthropies, Indianapolis healthcare institutions, and additional sources fund Institute activities.

Institute research findings have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of General Internal Medicine, Archives of Internal Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Pediatrics, and numerous other prominent peer-reviewed journals. Institute research has been translated into local, regional and national practice.

 

Centers and Research

  • Biomedical Informatics

The Center for Biomedical Informatics (CBMI) is a global collaborative research and learning organization, developing and evaluating innovative informatics solutions to improve patient care and translate these solutions into cost-effective, operational systems, including a dynamic electronic medical record system.

  • Health Services

Health Services Research (HSR) works to improve healthcare delivery and health outcomes of patients through research on patient safety, quality of care, patient-provider communication strategies, applied health information technologies, system redesign, and medical education research.

  • IUCAR

The Indiana University Center for Aging Research (IUCAR) develops, tests, and implements innovative strategies to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare and self-care for medically and socially vulnerable older adults.
